[conspire] Good or bad idea a FTP Server

I am planning to install it for the sole purpose of testing my web programs practice. I think Google and other guys has those services for fre, but ... 
If I do install I will use one of my laptops, and I am planning to have ON on a need basis only (to limit malware infections).
Any feedback with suggestions or tips?
