Just off the top of my head:
When you 'have your browser configured properly' to process e-mail
generated by a Web form, that means the Web browser knows what to do
with a 'mailto:' hyperlink. This feature, which in Firefox you can find
on Preferences, Applications, mailto, is primarily intended to declare
what external e-mail program should be passed that mail data.
To declare a Web-based email facility as the mailto handler is trickier.

There seem to be a variety of techniques, and some built-in facilities
for this sort of thing in Firefox 3 and above. You should start by
searching for the name of your webmail facility plus 'mailto'.
