Don't know -- but it's at least a little credible.  At minimum, it's
known to be a real bear of a codebase.

However, one of the points that the LibreOffice people make (and the
Go-OO people before them) is that the Sun staff responsible, and now the
Oracle people, have seemed to consistently ignored pretty much all
patches from outside parties.  

LibreOffice has already merged a whole lot of worthwhile community
patches that had piled up over the years.
