It's lucky, then, that I _nowhere suggested_ encouraging (or, to the
extent possible, allowing) random other people besides the LAN's
administrator from going around picking static IPs.  So, it turns out,
not surprisingly, that you're objecting to something that I didn't say.

This could have been a vastly shorter and more-productive discussion if
you hadn't done that.
