I'm very embarrassed!

On the Fedora list I sent out another email to which
someone responded. After a few replies back and forth,
he queried: "You do have speakers plugged in, right.  :-)"

I checked and sure enough I had forgotten to plug in
my speakers after I had installed a dvd reader someone
gave me - duh!

I'm so glad he stated the obvious and the thing I
should have checked first - esp since sound had
been working.
