Daniel - your last approach - the DIY angle - is in my mind the right
thing to be doing for Mom-n-Pop shop type customers.

While "Free wireless for customers" makes sense in lots of cases, it
doesn't make sense here - in fact it's important, in the liquor store
business, that your customers move on down the road rather than
mill around and check their email / IM w/ friends / IRC / Whatever.

So wiring the place seems to be a bad strategy all around.

Since they're already drinking the Google Kool-aid, ('Googlaid'?)
they could just make a google group & stay in the same UI/framework
end-to-end.

But, yes... either a 1u hosted somewhere, or a 'virtual host' or
shared host or no host at all... they're all options.

Google's proposition seems pretty compelling - free website, free
mailinglist... what else do they need?
