(As someone who first encountered -- and thoroughly enjoyed -- Peter
Jackson's earliest work in the mid-1990s, before he'd become a
household word, I've never known which to be more thoroughly astounded
by: the fact that Serious People would entrust him with so valuable a
franchise as The Lord of The Rings, or the fact that he knocked it out
