dunno. These days I'd be wanting a box with a bit more oomph - probably
a 64bit AMD cpu. Fry's had (or has) a weekly special for a
(refurbished) HP pavilion AMD64 for about $300. Also Central has some
interesting looking items in the $700 range.

I'm looking at upgrading too BTW (and actually might be able to afford
something on a budget) ... my current machine (AMD Athlon) is >5 years
old. It was mostly put together from components at Central Computer in
Santa Clara, although I added in stuff that I already had. Total cost
was about $600, and the case was probably one of the more expensive
parts, as well as the CPU (retail box Athlon 1Ghz in early 2001: $200).
