Here's another post that Daniel made during the gateway outage.  
This is basically a re-post on his behalf (done in a half-assed way
that makes it look like it's from me -- sorry).

Your scanner is already working as well as it will work. Unless someone
bothers to reverse engineer its protocol, you're stuck having to boot
into Windoze to use it. There are a hole lot of updates that Win98SE
will auto-download. I know; I've done it. I took a longer look at Rick's
knowledge base page on WordPerfect8 for Linux, and figured out the
problem with the WP8 CD Rick has -- we were trying to follow what it
said about the Non-downloadable version, when that CD is actually the
downloadable version, and getting it working is perfectly doable. If
you're up for another kernel recompile, you can get wireless working.
Also might as well throw in ltmodem while you're at it -- there's a new
version for the 2.6.7 kernel. I know, it's in the wrong machine, but you
can move it, right?  Your router can handle hooking up the other
machine.
