Where shall we meet was debated and it was decided that the citadel of darkness known as Berkeley should be the place? When was also argued until the head of the local circle, Don Harlow, decreed 6pm on Saturday, September 24. I took the hidden ways known as BART and after a short stop at the Other Change of Hobbit (where a guest speaker was speaking on a subject dear to The Loy's heart) presented myself at the door of the Taiwan. A nervous peek inside showed me a copy of the Creator's work on display on a table. Around the table was Don, Esther, and one of the chosen of the east but not one I expected, Courtenay Footman. Discussion followed while we waited for the rest. Bill Garrett eventually entered after finding another darkfriend, Sharon, in another section of the restaurant. Bill passed around his photos of other darkfriends while we chatted away on just about everything but the books (we did agree that Novak looked like Bayle Domon). Just as we finished the soup and mu shu pork, an unexpected coterie of darkfriends from that lost city to the south (LA), arrived. PJ, Kevin, and Pam knowing of the social and unable to endure the southern heat drove up to Berkeley for the weekend. Three more dishes were promptly ordered. Subjects of discussion, 1. Bill's job hunting 2. The newsgroup including a certain person from AoL 3. A certain amount on the books but I don't think we came up with anything earthshaking 4. Water (this is California after all) 5. The cabal (just enough to say TINC) 6. Chinese food (avoid the vegetable dishes at Taiwan, too much cornstarch) 7. Parking in Berkeley and elsewhere 8. ... (I'll let others fill this in) Sharon was the first to leave and then me so I'm not sure what happened afterwards.
