<pre wrap="">Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread. What can I expect to pay
for Data only with Sonic.net? For data + voice? Thanks again.
Also, I am concerned about the fact that the customer must rent a modem
from Sonic.net, and cannot buy it outright. Seems like a waste over the
life of the modem, and a hidden cost. Any thoughts?</pre>

Maybe it is a special modem but I am using a second hand ADSL
Netgear<br>
modem/router/firewall which I found in one or another Goodwill
store.<br>
Of course I am using not Sonic.net but DSLExteme.com.<br>
The Computer Central shop on Howard had modem/router combos<br>
a few weeks back at about $40. <br>

<pre wrap="">I've been using Sonic.net for 3.5 years and have been quite happy with
them. However there are a few things you should be aware of.
1. Sonic is focused on their Fusion service, voice + broadband.
Legacy DSL (DSL on AT&T phone lines) is only available if your location
doesn't qualify for Fusion.
Reference:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://forums.sonic.net/**viewtopic.php?f=5&t=932#p5500">https://forums.sonic.net/**viewtopic.php?f=5&t=932#p5500</a><a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="https://forums.sonic.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=932#p5500"><https://forums.sonic.net/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=932#p5500></a>
2. Modem rental is mandatory. There is no option to purchase a modem.
Long thread here:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://forums.sonic.net/**viewtopic.php?f=10&t=838">https://forums.sonic.net/**viewtopic.php?f=10&t=838</a><a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="https://forums.sonic.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=838"><https://forums.sonic.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=838></a>
3. Fusion voice - Call Forward No Answer is not available. Regular call
forwarding is available.
This feature allows the phone to ring at home and if not answered within a
number of rings, will forward to another line. It's great for "follow-me
calling".
Reference:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/**Call_Forwarding">https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/**Call_Forwarding</a><a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/Call_Forwarding"><https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/Call_Forwarding></a>
4. Ported numbers to Sonic remain listed or unlisted as they were prior to
porting.
In other words if you're porting a number over make sure it's listed or
unlisted BEFORE you port.
New numbers are unlisted.
Reference:
<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="https://forums.sonic.net/**viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46&p=**5813#p288">https://forums.sonic.net/**viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46&p=**5813#p288</a><a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="https://forums.sonic.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46&p=5813#p288"><https://forums.sonic.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=46&p=5813#p288></a>
That said I'm happily using their Legacy DSL and am hoping that their
features with Fusion will continue to evolve and at some point will switch
over.
