Directly quoting Rick Moen <rick at linuxmafia.com> from his previous
posting 'meet.jit.si change (re: initial room creation)' at
http://linuxmafia.com/pipermail/sf-lug/2023q3/015885.html :
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A change:  Initial _creation_ (opening) of a room on public Jitsi Meet
demonstration instance "meet.jit.si" now requires login authentication
using a Google Account _or_ a Facebook account _or_ a GitHub account.
I've just verified this.  Authentication is _not_ required for joining a
room once it's been opened.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

FWIW, as "mz googly" is apparently not quite as portable as some of its
advocates might otherwise claim and didn't particularly wish to dip into
the Meta "Dark Side", went ahead and created an ad hoc (but very
portable!) GitHub account to initially and successfully create/open
https://meet.jit.si/BerkeleyLUG instance for yesterday's BerkeleyLUG Jitsi
Meet meetup.

BTW, for even the unjust troubleshooting programmers and notoriously
adamant runit init advocates out there, "mz googly" remains a/an euphemism
for google ;-D
