In the sense that usage ignorant of, and opposite to, the established
usage has built up a 'different sense of the term', yes -- which is to
say that people who know the established meaning can determine that 'Oh,
this is that figurative Opposite Day sense' and understand what is
meant.

Indeed.

But trying to use an Opposite Day meaning in the context of technology,
when the established meaning is _also_ in the context of technology,
poses obvious problems that can be overcome only by thinking 'oh,
ignorant usage again'.
