What if you plot amount of time it takes (on the Y axis) to learn an 
amount of material plotted on the X axis?

Leaving graphing conventions out of it, I've certainly always taken 
'steep learning curve' to mean one needs to spend a lot of time.  Is 
that not in fact what it means?
