It depends on your 'buntu'...
Some have network and some have networking e.g. Linux Mint_64 has 'network'
Hence:

#ls /etc
## find which one your 'buntu' uses
Then:
I was just asking what you get for output or 'what happens???' when you
plug either 'network' or 'networking' into:
#/etc/init.d/??? restart

You can also try:
#systemctl restart networking/network ^^^??? from what you found it to be
