Not Linux.
Kernel is Unix (or Unix based ... OpenSolaris ... illumos).
Mate ... in general, (X) Window Managers and Desktop Environments (DEs)
are not limited to Linux, but will typically run in most any
more-or-less POSIX/SUS/Unix-like operating environment (where
X or in some cases similar/replacement is also installed).
