Hi Jackie,
The mptfs and mtp-tools should cause a phone connected via USB to
appear in the file manager (mine is called "samsung android", showing
two icons, "Card" and "Phone". I moved my pics to a micro SD card,so
doubleclicking on the "Card" shows a DCIM directory, doubling clicking
on that shows a "camera" directory, and doubleclicking on that opens
the location for the pictures, which may be selected and dragged to
your Downloads directory, or wherever you want. I also have older
pictures under the ...Phone/DCIM/Camera directory, from before I
changed the picture location to the card.
I think Ubuntu replaced the older ptp (Picture Transfer protocol) with
mtp a few years ago (not to confuse ptp with pptp (point to point
tunneling protocol). ;^)
