[sf-lug] SF-LUG meeting notes for Monday 19 March 2018

Hi LUGers,

     Well it was a small meeting.

     My wrist watch is broken so times are approximate.
     05:30 PM arrived to find Maestro setup at the large table.

     Said hello to Maestro and got the Dell E6420 set up with the
961(?) Gigabyte portable hard drive, and the 61 Gigabyte Flash
Drive with Delta installed.
     I had tested this combination earlier in the day and
was able, using the portable HD to make a usable copy to DVD
of Kali using Delta.   I think that somehow I have to find the
time to get more familiar with Delta.   The drive has <2 GB
of root directory and the rest is for keeping stuff you have
downloaded or created.   I have to say that the CD/DVD
tool is very limited compared to K3b and I could say the same
of the file utility.  It was pretty easy to set up with Cafe Enchante's
WiFi.  I used Firefox through most of the meeting and it worked
very well.
     I played with Delta for a bit then Jackie Barshak came in with
a list of problems with Ubuntu 16.04.3 on her Toshiba.

     I was able to solve some of them by looking on Ubuntu sites
and others more important to her by following Ken's concise
directions which he had emailed to her already.
     Apparently she had not bothered to read the email and did
not believe herself capable of following the instructions given.
I don't know why she feels that way but I have seen this
attitude many times.
     I am not too bright on Ubuntu (or much else) these days
but I could follow Ken's typed instructions.

     One of the things I did for Jackie was to get her a copy of
SkypeforLinux-64.deb and successfully installed it on Toshiba.
I also gave her a copy of the latest Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS.

     Ubunto 18.04 LTS should be out next month.  Some will
be happy with the new Gnome interface but I will try to get
people to use the Mate version.

     7:45 PM I started packing up my equipment and left about
8 P.M. to catch a bus back to my neighborhood.

     The next meeting will be April 1 which sadly is also
Easter/Passover Sunday.  My usual notice of the meeting
will be out a week from today, i.e. March 26th,  if I think
I am well enough to be there.
     As always any of the people in attendance are free to
to advise me and the rest of the SF-LUG of problems with
my notes above.

     Enjoy the Vernal Equinox, and if you follow that faith
observe the rituals of Holy Week and Easter Sunday or
perhaps celebrate Passover or for those who might be
pagan is Eostre celebrating the return of the Spring.
For those of no faith at all we always have that meeting. ;^>
