Hello all, just a heads-up on a problem with the latest Ubuntu releases
with the 4.13 series kernels.

The kernel released with Ubuntu 17.10 (and 18.04 daily builds), 4.13.0-17,
has a serious problem with freezing updates for certain BIOS/UEFI ROMs.
The safe kernels are 4.13.0-21+, so if you have any old ISOs of 17.10 (or
18.04), better discard them. The Ubuntu 16.04.3 release is still using
the 4.10 kernels, but if any Hardware Enablement stack updates were applied
to the 16.04 with the 4.13 kernels, better be sure you get the latest one.
A variety of machines are affected including models from Lenovo, Acer,
Toshiba, Dell,.. The bug has been reported at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1734147, check there for updates on
information. Symptoms are being unable to update the non-volatile memory,
so boot order changes do not get saved, etc. , being unable to boot USB, ...
