Hi LUGers,
Well we had fairly good meeting today.
I got to the Cafe Enchante about 10:45 AM and begin to setup at
a couple of the small square tables but as I was about to plug in I
noticed the largest table was free and moved to it.
No problems powering up but I had never connected to WiFi on either of
my freshly installed distribution. Before I could begin to work on that
about 11:00 AM Aaron showed up and started to setup.
Aaron had several disks and a magazine to return to me.
So I got back to Debian Edu 9.1 and found that the task bar was the
main problem as the network indicating display was almost invisible and
finally I found it and got online very quickly.
11:10 AM Ken Shaffer and wife showed up both looking good.
Ken is not happy about losing the use of Unity on his Ubuntu and I
expect others feel similarly We briefly discussed the possibility of
a mutual net acquaintance showing up but we have greated
expectations of that happening on Monday the 18th of September.
11:20 AM Mike joined us for a snack and some discussion of varied
topics.
I got back to the community pclinuxOS64 tde 2017.06 and
managed to get it online which took a bit longer than I anticipated.
I don't really know Trinity DE that well. despite that it forked back
when KDE Plasma 4.x.x was introduced.
11:40 AM Shari came in for help with her WiFi networking problems
Ken did most of the work on this. Like my problem with Debian 9
this was due to the difficult of spotting the task bar/dock panel
widget. Once it was located Shari rebooted and did this herself.
She left about 12:25 PM, Shari had a bad time finding a place
to park her car. Took her about 45 minutes.
12:35 PM Jim Stockford arrived, for a nice snack and some
discussion. I raised the question of the Intel Management
Engine shut off command recently discovered. I had heard
(rumors which I did not really believe) of this clever device
earlier but turning it off sounds good. Subverting it to use
as a anti-intrusion, anti-malware device for Linux and even
the Microsoft program launcher would be a very good idea.
Any additions or corrections by the attending members
are of course welcome.
So the next meeting will be on Monday the 18th of
September from 6-8 PM at the Cafe Enchante.
Hope to see some of us there.
Bobbie Sellers
