I like to keep my laptop in a padded, fleece-lined protective bag from
Herschel Supply Company, and then stuff _that_ bag w/laptop into my
carry-on bag. To my knowledge, their bags are all marketed as for Apple
products, but there's no reason not to buy them for, e.g., a ThinkPad,
after checking dimensons.

You will probably find over time that _any_ laptop PSU is often unusable
on airplane AC outlets -- because the latter have tended to be
ridiculously undersupplied with current capacity. Like, maybe they
assumed few passengers would use them at all, but then 200% more usage
than provided for in spec attempt to draw on them, and the system shuts
down. I've found it wisest to assume the AC outlets near me aren't
going to be able to power anything.
