Hi LUGers,

SF-LUG meeting of August 7, 2016 at Cafe Enchante

   This was a lively and entertaining meeting.

   John S waiting for me in a crowded room, sitting at one of the
tiny round table and I sat there too.
   As soon as 3 tables opened up we moved there. And began to set
up the usual stuff.

   Ken S and wife made it next.

   Ken is enthused over successfully installing the colorful MS
program launcher while keeping his Linux Partitions and boot loader
intact. I think that is some sort of achievement.
I showed him how Thunderbird is set up for Usenet.

   I was so busy talking that John S. took the time to get into a long
line and buy my decaf soy latte, Thanks John.

   Shari Mann, a woman seeking help who is running a 32 bit system
on which the hard drive failed. She presently has the machine at
ActNet's shop. She does not like icons so I showed her how to
access menus and file lists in PCLinuxOS. I assured her that we(Jim
and I) could set up a dual boot system on her machine once ActNet is
done with it. That will permit her to learn something about Linux.

   Jim S showed up around noon. He seemed to enjoy the conversation
and the Linux Pro magazines. We also talked about the length of our
experience with computers going back to the 1980s.

   Aaron showed up a few minutes later. He had contacted me for
a couple of distributions I had mentioned in my supplementary notes
for the meeting, He got WiFiSlax 4.2 and Linux Mint 18xfce 32 bit.

   Daniel G. came in and is looking through the screws I brought for
his new (used) machine, a Dell E6430. Well he found the screws but
then the machine refused to boot. Before I left he had determined
that a SATA interface pin had bent.
   Good luck with the computer Daniel.

   The next meeting will be on Monday, August 15 at the Cafe Enchante
from 6 PM to 8 PM

   If anyone in attendance has anything to add or to correct
misapprehensions
on my part please send your corrections in asap to the list.

       ==================================

Master PDF Editor 3 works well.

   I recently started seeing a new physician and got the history papers
via e-mail as .pdf files. So I got to use Master PDF 3 and found it a very
handy tool for my purpose. I did not have much time to fill in the pages
so missed the part that would have let me circle items and did those
circles by hand. The rest looked as though i had typed the answers
in. Will be happy to show off this tool if anyone has questions.
     ==================================
   Oh remember the cheap multicolored LED keyboard I got last year?
the first problem has shown up and it is a sticky shift key.
     ==================================
   Be well and plan on coming to a future meeting.
     Thanks for your attention.

       Bobbie Sellers
