Hi SF-LUG people!
For the past few months, I've been working on an open source Google Docs
alternative (and more) called Sandstorm. Tech-minded people (myself
included) use Sandstorm as a package manager for web apps.
I just finished working on integrating free of cost SSL certificates, and
you can read about it here:
https://blog.sandstorm.io/news/2015-10-01-free-ssl-certificates.html
The summary is that you can install Sandstorm (which is open source) on any
x86-64 Linux server you have, at home or in the cloud, and we'll give you a
free dyndns domain and auto-renewing HTTPS certificate to go with it. Then
you (and anyone who you invite) can click and create securely sandboxed
Etherpad documents, RSS feed readers, WordPress blogs, and other things
(since it's a package manager).
Here's a partial list of things you won't have to think about if you do
this:
* Certificate signing requests
* Reverse proxies
* Domains or certificates expiring
If people have any questions, I'm happy to answer them!
-- Asheesh.
P.S. I'm supposed to call it HTTPS or TLS nowadays, to be pedantic.
