ISP: DSL Extreme, Sonic, ??

     Am interested in finding an alternative to U-verse Internet service in
San Francisco.  Both DSL Extreme and Sonic have been recommended, but I
recently saw a comment that DSL Extreme has been trending down.  Would
appreciate some recommendations.  U-verse recently provided a new Pace
modem/router (the 3rd one; the first two Motorolas were not good.)  U-verse
doesn't charge a fee for the modem.
