[sf-lug] seeking laptop recommendations to upgrade from thinkpad t61p

Indeed. I'm willing to compromise speed in order to reduce weight, so
I'll look for a T series.

It seems that of the W and T series, the 430 and 530 have a trackpoint
plus real mouse buttons, while the 440 and 540 have virtual mouse buttons.

Lenovo stopped selling the T{4,5}30, so I'm going to keep my eyes open
for a Lenovo refurbished T{4,5}30.

It's too bad they don't come with a bigger screen. My old T61P has a
15.4" screen and I really use it all. The T{4,5}30 only have a 14"
screen. I might have to consider the W series after all. It seems to be
only a pound more, if I'm reading the comparisons correctly. (Sheesh, I
keep talking myself around in circles...)

Meanwhile, I may buy the SSD for my current T61P, since that seems like
the biggest speed gain for the least amount of effort and lowest risk,
and I can always reuse the SSD in whatever I buy, as it's most likely a
refurbished computer will not have an SSD. Worst case I can use it in my
spare T61. I may buy the faster processor, too, since that's only $75.

I don't think I'll splurge for the RAM, since I'm rarely above 75%, and
I don't think I can use T61 RAM in the newer 4x0/5x0 series as it's too
slow.

As usual, your comments and observations are valuable.
