Oracle is hiring a Mid Level Solaris Systems Administrator - Solaris/Linux/x86 - Santa Clara, CA - please send resumes to lorise.best-johnston at oracle.com - IRC1513738 

General responsibilities include set-up and configuration of x64 platforms and related leading edge technologies, supporting Solaris software teams within the Systems Platform Group. System set-up includes installing Solaris, configuring BIOS, storage, and network subsystems, making new platforms available for remote access on development lab networks. 

Must be a team player with ability to multitask and prioritize multiple competing requests. 

Outline of more specific responsibilities and desired skills: 

- Customize system configurations for testing of various system components 
- Run Solaris HW Compatibility Test Suite (HCTS) and other test suites 
- Hardware Logistics, receipt of incoming hardware & occassional shipments 
- Aide in deployment of these systems in labs where necessary 
- Installing new I/O hardware such as add-on NIC and/or storage HBA's 
- Diagnose & repair issues to ensure high system availability 
- Understand & implementing best practices for System Administration 
- Writing shell scripts (sh, csh) 
- Able to manipulate Cronjobs for system maintenance 
- System Logs inspection (/var/adm/messages, /var/log/syslog, others...) 
- Good understanding of NIS, DNS, and NFS filesystems 
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose a network issue vs. system issue 
- Understand how to repair filesystems such as UFS and ZFS 
- Understand newer Solaris technologies such as FMA, SMF, and IPS 
- Ability to deploy a SW development lab, requiring remote & local access 
- Remote Power capability to all machines/equipment 
- Remote Console capability to all machines/equipment (x86 and SPARC) 
- Work with all types of Service Processors, iLOMs, LOMs from various vendors, not just Sun-Oracle (+ HP, Dell, IBM BladeCenter) 
- Work with BIOS and EFI on x86 machines and OBP on SPARC systems 
- Be a dependable resource for others in the group 
- Patience, tenacity, and ability to investigate & resolve sometimes difficult Systems Administration related questions
