[sf-lug] what is the name of the screen (application) that comes up when my laptop wakes from hibernate?

good idea. looks like the default with gnome is gnome-screensaver, but i 
had some bits and pieces of xscreensaver from previous experiments, 
which may have gotten in the way.

i'll try removing xscreensaver, and will also check with ssh as you suggest.
