[sf-lug] Advice on running a laptop on AC only, without a battery (dead)

The computer still won't boot? It should be fine to use with AC-- I've been
running my laptop for two years now just on AC. I tried a new battery
recently but I couldn't charge it (discharged just fine). If the power cord
is loose, it's probably not worth the pain of refilling or buying a new
battery.
The one thing is if the AC gets pulled, your PC just shuts right down which
is a pain.
