[sf-lug] Looking for a Linux solution to a Windows problem

A friend has a laptop running XP/Pro; the motherboard went bad.  He removed the hard drive and put it into a USB external case and plugged that into a Vista Premium machine.  He can access all files from the external drive.  However, password protected files which were created under the Administrator account under XP/Pro cannot be accessed; even though he signed on as Administrator on the Vista Machine.

Is there some Linux software which can remove the password from the files or is there a better solution?
