$ ssh -o ServerAliveInterval=5 <sshserverhost>

works just fine.

Thank you very much.

I'm now checking to see if 
ServerAliveInterval=5
as a line in ~/.ssh/config
will accomplish the same result.
I have a warm feeling about it:-)
