Here are the video packages that you want to get through synaptic. Do you
know how to use synaptic? Please be sure not to get any packages from
random places on the Internet, because if you are a relative newbie like me,
you will make a mistake and break your system, and it will be frustrating
for you. But if you use synaptic, it will make sure all of your software
works together. Here are the search words you should type in synpatic (one
after another, not all at once):
dvgrab
smilutils
transcode
ffmpeg2theora
The last package will allow you to compress video into ogg theora, which is
the only truly Free video codec.
