[sf-lug] cups under Ubuntu

I thought I had the problem overcome but sadly not.
Some back ground is in order:
The machine in question (lildell) is a (Gateway) laptop that in the past,
I had configured to send print jobs to another computer on my lan (belmont)
acting as a print server. That all worked well.
Now lildell is being used elsewhere, still on the same lan, but with
it's own (OfficeJet710) parallel printer hooked up.
In spite of being configured to use the parallel printer as default,
print jobs keep going to belmont's printer (DeskJet842C.)
I've even deleted the DeskJet (from lildell) using both the CUPS web inter-
face AND the Ubuntu interface (I think it's called system-config-printer.)
What I think is the relevant content of /etc/cups/printers.conf follows:
##################
# Printer configuration file for CUPS v1.3.7
# Written by cupsd on 2008-08-24 11:02
<DefaultPrinter OfficeJet>
Info
Location ark/lildell
DeviceURI hp:/par/OfficeJet_Series_700?device=/dev/parport0
###############
_NO_ other printers are listed in that file!
..and yet lpr <file-of-your-choice> executed on lildell, consistently sends
the job to belmont's printer.

Although this may be of little relevance, I'm puzzled by the
/dev/parport0 URI.
# lpinfo -v gives (among other lines)
direct parallel:/dev/lp0
Why parport0 instead of lp0 in printers.conf?

I'm seriously thinking of purging cups and reinstalling it unless
someone has any suggestions to try first.
