[sf-lug] More Self inflicted Display Issues

Are you actually getting a crash error and defaulting to CLI, or is it just
blank?  I'm assuming that it's just blank.

If you try to switch to one of the other terminals is it still black or do
you get a login prompt?

If you are getting pitch black no matter what, it's probably a hardware
issue with your cabling or KVM, if you get to a CLI prompt, then it's
definitely the xserver.

I would to the following (again in your case)

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and choose the generic vesa driver....see if
you can at least get some kind of GUI up.

afterward, you can do less/more/cat to check your xorg.conf and make sure
there is data in there.  If you are using nano and not seeing anything in
the file, that would be truly odd.  I would suspect that the file name was
entered incorrect.  I've never run into an occassion where less/more/cat
showed data in a file and nano/ee/vi didn't.
