Here is a description for this Saturday's event in the Mission, which will
be held from 12 noon to 4 pm. We really need people to show up at 10:30,
since I will have to leave at 11:00 to teach a GIMP class at the school. We
particularly need people who can speak Spanish, although English speakers
are fine, too.
Mission District Tech Connect Computer Resource Fair
April 26, 2008
According to a 2007 report from the City Controller's Office, City and
County of San Francisco, Latino residents are the least likely demographic
to use computers and the Internet in San Francisco.
Access to information technology is increasingly necessary to obtain
employment, education opportunities, health information and city services.
This public event is for families, low-income and limited English-speaking
Mission District residents to learn more about computers, online resources,
local training and technical support agencies. The event will be bilingual,
with Spanish language workshops and demonstrations of Spanish-language
online resources. Some participants will have absolutely no experience with
computers or the Internet and others may be more proficient.
Certified Caminos Pathways technicians will repair simple computer equipment
problems. Volunteers will help to set up computers and a wireless network
for demonstrations; welcome participants to the event; work one-on-one with
monolingual or limited-English speaking participants to introduce the
Internet; and provide information about additional training opportunities in
the Mission.
Special Event Date: April 26, 2008
Project Selection Dates: April 07, 2008 - April 26, 2008
