FWIW, I have a Sprint AirCard 595U USB cellular modem from work, and I use
it with Kubuntu and Windows XP on my work laptop, and it's great.
(I use it on the train between Davis and San Jose.)

IIRC, you need to configure it once, first, in Windows, though.
(I did this for my roommate's friend who got one, but is using Linux,
using aforementioned XP laptop.)
