Tom,
as it happens,
although it was vim-gnome that I apt-get installed on the ubuntu
machine (v7.04)
and vim-kde that I apt-get installed on the debian machine (running
fluxbox)
: on both machines within firefox addons prferences,
I had to browse to /usr/bin/gvim
to get "it's all text" to work.
/usr/bin/vim-kde and /usr/bin/vim-gnome seemed not to work.
Anyway, I've got it running on two machines more and when I get a
chance I'll
get it going on thinkpad for my friend George who is also learning vim.
As you might guess, I'm using vim for the first time in this context.
Thanks a lot, again.
cheers,
alex
