Not sure what the specs of the laptop are, but if you have less than
512MB of RAM you'll want to try this version of Ubuntu (the "Alternate
CD"):

http://mirrors.gigenet.com/ubuntu/7.10/ubuntu-7.10-alternate-i386.iso

Note this is a particular mirror, so another way to do it would be to
look up the appropriate mirror on
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/downloadmirrors and then choose the
"alternate" cd image.
