Actually, they're not that strict but they do want you to register.

In the past, free T-shirts were given out and I expect it the same this
year.  A line was formed and those who had registered went first.
Those who did not, went second and sometimes their size was not
available at that point.

There are car pools from SF and around the Bay Area as well.

A lot of people will be there.  It's worth going to.  Linux luminaries will
be there( authors of Linux books, programming languages, or IT
practices).
