I often subscribe to email lists from multiple addresses so I can send 
messages from whatever email address I like.  When I do this, I set the 
NOMAIL flag in my mailing list preferences (stored on the list server) for 
all but one address.  That way, I get only one copy of list messages.

For mailman lists, this is one of the many preferences you get to choose 
from when you log in to the list's web page.
