Folks:
It's time again for a Proposition Party! There are lots of propositions
on the California ballot, plus many local issues and candidates to be
decided on November 3rd.
For those not familiar with the concept, a "Proposition Party" is a
gathering where we discuss the merits and drawbacks of the various state
and local ballot measures. This is not about "how to vote", but instead
it is focused on "what exactly are we voting on", and determining what
"yes" and "no" votes mean with respect to each ballot measure.
In the past, we've gathered on a Saturday or Sunday before the election,
bringing our voter pamphlets, newspaper editorials and reviews, web page
print-outs, campaign materials, opinion pieces, and any other background
materials, and we discuss each measure. Hopefully, we do this calmly
and thoughtfully.
In the past, we've gathered at a restaurant, had brunch and then gotten
down to business. (Sadly, our usual restaurant chain, Sweet Tomatoes,
has gone out of business.)
So, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, things have changed a bit --
instead of a restaurant, we'll gather via Zoom.
Several people have proposed a gathering on Saturday, October 17th,
starting at Noon. (You're welcome to propose a different date or time by
8:00pm-ish on Wednesday, October 14.)
When we select a time, I'll distribute invitations to the Zoom meeting.
Please remember that democracy is not a spectator sport.
Thanks,
Michael
P.S. Feel free to pass this along to others in your household.
