This Friday I am helping host a special event this month Oct 19-21,
Friday evening and all day Saturday & Sunday. http://olpcsf.org/summit
There is a $40 fee ($25 students) to attend. OLPC is the One Laptop
per Child project http://laptop.org started at MIT by Nicholas
Negroponte formerly of the MIT Media Lab. While press shaking the
hands of heads of state has not been as frequently lately the project
continues to deploy laptops. People from all over the world will be
joining us at SFSU to discuss real world experiences deploying little
green laptops to developing countries. The OLPC San Francisco group
advocates and volunteers to support about a dozen OLPC deployment
locations working with schools. As of January, 2012 over 2.5 million
OLPC green laptops are in kids hands all over the world.
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Deployments I believe the number has risen
to over 3.1 million now. Every child between ages 6 and 12 in Uruguay
has one.
The @sugarlabs Sugar Camp is next week at SFSU. Please join us if you
are interested
The Fedora Project is a sponsor of the Summit. Several Fedora
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Ambassadors will be on hand including
myself.
We meet (officially) on the second and fourth Friday of each month.
Mark your calendars for the next meeting at 7PM on Friday, October
26th.

If you can't wait, bring a penguin to your favorite cafe with you at
any time. It sure helps start interesting conversations. I recommend
trying the weekly noisebridge.net/wiki/LinuxDiscussion Wednesdays at
6PM. Meeting organizers can propose other dvlug.org meetings. An
Ubuntu Hour may be organized similar to the SF and Mt. View monthly
events. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/CaliforniaTeam/Projects/UbuntuHours
Feel free to ask questions on this email list. Apparently kind
spirited suggestions welcome.
Cheers,
Grant
