<div dir="ltr"><div><div>The Bumblebee project appears to provide good support for Optimus under fedora: <a href="https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bumblebee">https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bumblebee</a> with various options available from the Bumblebee repository.<br></div><div><br></div>While not Optimus, on my primary desktop, I use the binary nvidia drivers repackaged by rpmfusion and they have always been rock solid and the latest version. The packaging done by rpmfusion ensures that everything is kept in sync as opposed to downloading and installing the driver directly from nvidia and using an install shell script. Bumblebee appears to provide the same convenience for Optimus.<br><br></div><div>If you want to bring your own fedora image on usb key or dvd, you can either get the generic desktop at: <a href="https://getfedora.org/en/workstation/download/">https://getfedora.org/en/workstation/download/</a><br></div><div>or a specific desktop spin, if you have a preference, at <a href="https://spins.fedoraproject.org/">https://spins.fedoraproject.org/</a><br></div><div><br></div><div>I will be at Rick's on Saturday and have done many fedora installs including on my new Lenovo laptop which dual-boots windows 10 and fedora 24. Sure, we'd be glad to help.<br>

1. Are you bringing a copy of your desired Linux distribution, or would you<br>
prefer for us to provide it? What distribution would you prefer?<br>
<br>
2. Please provide us with the make/model of your computer. I ask in<br>
part because it's necessary to determine the specific Nvidia chipset:<br>
'Optimus GeForce' is just a _family_ of GPU chips. Also, is this a<br>
desktop computer or a notebook computer?<br>
<br>
We'll need this information right away, in order to do timely research<br>
in advance of Saturday.<br>
<br>
This will be the first time we've encountered Nvidia Optimus graphics,<br>
so no, we don't have expertise with this, but it appears that the<br>
probable solution is to complete distro installation and then retrofit<br>
Nvidia's proprietary video software.<br>
<br>
Unfortunately, buying hardware using Nvidia graphics chips is pretty<br>
hostile to open source, and adds certain difficulties. There is<br>
preliminary open source support for the Nvidia Optimus GeForce family,<br>
been built almost entirely through reverse-engineering, but that would<br>
be less likely to work well at this time.<br>
