Quoting Rick Moen,<br><br>FWIW, you _could_ eschew update-manager entirely, and use command-line<br>tools only.<br><br><br>Kai: <br>You know what I think I might just do that.  The GUI Update function was working just fine on Monday morning before left town.  Then when I can back Wednesday night bada-bing-bada-bamm, the GUI Update functions (the Update Manager, Updating via Synaptic Manager, and the GNOME App Installer) all broke down and began giving me the exact same error message.  Since I had not made ANY changes to my Ubuntu Linux, I first wondered if there was a problem with the Ubuntu Updates out on the web.  When the problem persisted for over 16 hours and I did not see anyone mention my specific problem on the Ubuntu User Forums that is when I decided to start asking questions. <br>
