Thanks for the suggestion of candied orange rind.  It was easy to find recipes online. I never thought something made from healthy oranges could have so much sugar.

North Ridge Trailhead, 13184 Skyline Blvd, about 2 miles north of King's 
Mountain Road.  Join me, if you want to look for owls, or just for the
hike.)
