 My mental map definitely recalls a sign for Thermo Fisher in that block.  
Silicon Valley likes to take down and replace buildings.  Meanwhile, my current reading is a book about historical buildings, mostly homes, in Santa Clara County.  Some time I might want to actually visit the street addresses and see how many of the homes from 18xx are still standing.
Maybe somewhere there is a book that covers San Mateo county.  
Filoli and Ralston Manor, to name two, were side effects of the 1916 Pan Pacific Expo.  When it became apparent that the Expo was going to happen, many "important" people decided they needed to have a home that was suitable for entertaining visitors from the East Coast or Europe.  
Next time you can wander around the Filoli house, somewhere in the complex of rooms for kitchen / pantry, hanging on the wall is a copy of a form from the 1930 census.  30 people were listed as living there.

I did a bit of additional, idle checking.  Its street address was
technically 541 Lakeview Drive, set well back from Lakeview's southwest
corner with Oakmead Parkway.  I remembered it as being on Oakmead
because you could approach across a long parking lot from there.

That address is now the corporate office of "Thermo Fisher Scientific
B8", and, going by online photos, I'm pretty sure the Fry's repurposed
grocery store got razed and replaced with the current light-industry /
office structure.
