Yeah, don't do scuzzy stuff, or even quite dubious stuff to others.
And if you do, expect to pay the consequences.

So, research being done, by university, presumably reviewed,
professor presumably overseeing it, etc.
And ... it's doing something rather nasty to Open Source in
the name of "research".  Yes, expect a lot of names to
get rightfully dragged through the mud.
And so, yes, that's what's happened ... plus the ban, and
hundreds of code contributions getting ripped out becoming suspect,
and sucking up a lot more time of key developer resources to
review what if any of such code should remain or go back in, and how
is it entangled with other changes that came later, etc.
Way to get name recognition and attention ...
but definitely not in a good way.
