The only reason I was interested in Chrom(ium) was because a previous
email suggested Firefox might not work with the online CABAL.  We will
know in a few hours.

The install process did have a check box to allow proprietary software. 
I did check it, but ...  

As for workspaces, (after I finally remembered the term was workspaces)
a quick Google showed me how to use settings to control them.  I defined
a fixed number of 4, which is what had worked well enough for me in the
past.  As with almost everything in the Linux universe, if there is a
way to do something there are multiple ways to achieve the same end.
