I'm to lazy to close the stuff I'm currently running (firefox, hexchat,
thunderbird, thunar, few qtterminals) but with lxqt I have
total used free shared buff/cache
available
Mem: 8120260 2419964 4470724 160916 1229572
5246464
Swap: 1929212 856 1928356
Subtracting buff to used we get
fluxbox: 1189952
lxqt: 1190392
lxqt is really minimal and it's not that smart in windows placement, but
it is actively developed and definitively a bit more comfortable and
nice than fluxbox.
I was quite surprised its memory footprint is even smaller than xfce4.
If you wish you can even use wayland through kde kwin, I still had
problem making virtualbox run on wayland so I stayed on plain X.
I didn't do anything special to optimize this system and it has been
running several years... I just moved from kde to xfce4 to lxqt since
being on sid sometimes something break up and since I've learned to
avoid hyper customization and don't get too fond on any DE, in spite of
reverting to the previous working version (that in the case of a DE may
mean several packages) and wait they fix the bugs I pick up another DE.
