Yes, the late 24-year-old grand-niece Samya Rose Stumo, who was in Addis
Ababa on a trip for her job with health systems development
organization ThinkWell, was the daughter of two lawyers, Michael Stumo
and Nadia Milleron, who filed a wrongful-death negligence lawsuit
against Boeing Company and Rosemount Aerospace, the manufacturer said to
be responsible for the catastrophically failed Angle of Attack sensor,
in Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern
Division, in Chicago[1], this past Thursday.  They also filed a separate 
claim against the FAA.

A number of other families are likewise pursuing litigation against Boeing,
Ethiopian Airlines and Rosemount Aerospace.  One such lawsuit had already
been filed, before the one seeking damages for death of Ms. Stumo,
brought by the family of UN employee Jackson Musoni.

Separately, the DoJ criminal division is investigating the airframe's
engineering and oversights, Transportation Department's IG is
investigating its certification process, Congress is doing likewise, and
deliberately-useless billionaire-flunkie Elaine Chao, The Toddler's pick
as Transportation Secretary (and wife of Mitch McConnell) is allegedly
running a (almost certainly fangless and deliberatly pointless) special
committee investigation.

Ralph Nader has _long_ been a critic of regulatory capture at the FAA
and of severe shortcutting of airline safety.  (Suffice to say, I
believe I have some understanding of how he and the bereaved parents
feel, and wish them luck in their litigation.)


[1] Legal jurisdiction is alleged to be a consequence of Boeing Company
being headquartered in that city, the firm having moved HQ to Fulton River
District, just outside the Chicago Loop, in September 2001, from its
historic location in Renton, Washington and in two subsequent locations
in adjoining Seattle.  (Not that I keep an eye on the family enemy or
anything. ;-> )
