I like and am happy with Protonmail.  https://mail.protonmail.com/login
They have free Web based mail, VPN service, and an affordable email client that works with Thunderbird, mail.app, etc.

I also very much like Raw Bandwidth but worry about the day when oligopolists like ATT are no longer required to support the copper pairs delivering our DSL service. I do not look forward to a time when my only choice is between a couple of giant, uncaring oligopolists.
